Dead Cells is an action-packed roguelike title that has been captivating players since its release in 2017. With its easy-to-learn mechanics and gradually increasing difficulty, it has become an instant hit with gamers. But the developers of the game have kept the content fresh by adding new content to the game in the form of paid add-ons and free updates. So, are these add-ons worth your money? To answer this question, let’s take a closer look at what each of the DLCs for Dead Cells has to offer.

Rise of the Giant (free)

Initially, the developers from Motion Twin released only freeware updates that changed the balance and added new locations. But after a few months, they released the first and only free DLC for the game - Rise of the Giant. This DLC added the highest level of difficulty, four new locations, enemies, and bosses, as well as several outfits, about a dozen of new weapons, and new missions.

The Bad Seed DLC

The first paid DLC for the game was The Bad Seed, which was released at the beginning of 2020. This DLC focused on three new locations: "The Weathered Arboretum," "Morass of Exiles," and "The Nest," and was packed with lush greenery. The add-on costs $4.99, which is not prohibitive, although compared to the rest of the DLC, The Bad Seed may seem short and lacking in content.

Fatal Falls DLC

A year after The Bad Seed, Evil Empire released the second DLC - Fatal Falls. This DLC took players to the skies with three new biomes - Fractured Shrines, Undying Shores, and Mausoleum. It also added eight unique enemies and one boss, seven weapons, eleven outfits, and twelve achievements to complete the whole package. The price for Fatal Falls was still five bucks.

The Queen and the Sea DLC

In 2022, gamers were presented with a third DLC, The Queen and the Sea, which focused on the story and introduced three new biomes - Infested Shipwreck, Lighthouse, and The Crown. This DLC included only two new enemies and bosses but also ten new weapons and fifteen new outfits, as well as seventeen new achievements. Its price was $4.99.

Return to Castlevania DLC

The fourth and latest DLC for Dead Cells is Return to Castlevania, which was developed with the full blessing of Konami. This DLC offers four brand-new locations, taken straight from the original Castlevania series. Players can also expect to encounter characters from the series, such as Alucard, Richter, and Maria, and battle against iconic enemies like Death and Dracula. The DLC also includes 9 new opponents, 14 weapons, and 20 outfits. However, this DLC is more expensive than the others, at $10.

Conclusion

So, is it worth buying the DLCs for Dead Cells? The answer is a resounding yes. Even if the DLCs are bought individually, they are still worth the price. Buying them in a bundle provides an even better value, as it can add more than a dozen hours to the game. So, if you’re looking for a way to add more content to your Dead Cells experience, the DLCs are definitely worth the money.
