The United Nations' top court has drawn the ire of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has accused the court's prosecutor of "demonizing" Israel. This accusation stems from an order issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) demanding Israel immediately cease its military offensive against Hamas in Rafah, the Palestinian terrorist group's final stronghold in the Gaza Strip.

The ICC's order came hours after Netanyahu told Fox News host Sean Hannity that four Hamas battalions remained in Rafah and that Israel would not "leave them there." He likened Israel leaving Hamas battalions in Rafah to the Allies leaving 20% of the Nazi army in Berlin during World War II and declared it "unacceptable."

The ICC President, Nawaf Salem, who voted in favor of halting the Rafah operation, has a history of making anti-Israel statements. In 2015, he wrote that "Israel must stop violence and end occupation" and that "Portraying the critics of Israel's policies as antisemites is an attempt to intimidate and discredit them, which we reject."

Despite the ICC's order, Israeli government spokesperson Avi Hyman declared that "No power on earth will stop Israel from protecting its citizens and going after Hamas in Gaza." He added that Israel would "destroy Hamas" and bring peace and security to the people of Israel and Gaza.

Netanyahu acknowledged a disagreement with the Biden administration over a large-scale Rafah operation but vowed to do what was necessary to defeat Hamas. He said, "We're going in there. We're trying to reach an understanding with the administration, but we'll do what we need to do, what we must do to make sure that Hamas doesn't retake Gaza and repeat the horrible October 7th massacre."

Netanyahu's comments highlight the ongoing tensions between Israel and the international community over Israel's military actions in Gaza. The ICC has been investigating alleged war crimes committed by both Israel and Hamas since 2015. Israel has not ratified the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, and does not recognize the court's jurisdiction.

The ICC's order has been met with mixed reactions. Some observers have welcomed the court's intervention, while others have criticized it as biased against Israel. The situation remains fluid, and it is unclear how the ICC's order will impact the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
