Pearsall was drafted by the 49ers in the first round in April. He missed time during training camp with a few nagging injuries.

The NFL player, 23, had been walking alone shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time when a suspect attempted to rob him with a gun, according to officials. San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said that more than one shot was fired.

A 17-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Pearsall's shooting has sent shockwaves through the NFL community. Many players and teams have taken to social media to offer their support and prayers.

The 49ers organization has also expressed its support for Pearsall and his family.

"We are deeply concerned about Ricky and his family after this traumatic incident," the team said in a statement. "We are providing them with our full support and resources as Ricky recovers."

Pearsall is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries. However, the emotional scars of the shooting may take longer to heal.

"I'm just glad he's alive," his mother said. "It could have been so much worse."

The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of NFL players in the Bay Area. In recent years, there have been several high-profile shootings in the region, including the fatal shooting of Oakland Raiders cornerback Darrent Williams in 2007.

The 49ers organization has said that it is taking steps to ensure the safety of its players and staff.

"We are working closely with local law enforcement to address this issue," the team said in a statement. "We are also implementing additional security measures at our facilities."

Pearsall's shooting is a reminder of the dangers that NFL players face on a daily basis. They are often targeted for their wealth and fame, and they are often seen as easy victims.

However, NFL players are also human beings, and they deserve to be safe. The league and its teams need to do more to protect their players from violence.
