Texas Gov. Greg Abbott accuses Vice President Kamala Harris of "facilitating border crime" by blocking legislation that would have secured the southern border. Abbott discusses former President Trump's upcoming visit to the Arizona border and slams the Biden administration's immigration policies.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has launched a scathing attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of "facilitating border crime" by blocking legislation that would have secured the southern border.
"Kamala Harris has been an active participant in facilitating border crime," Abbott said in an interview with Fox News. "She has refused to secure the border, and her policies have led to a surge in illegal immigration and drug trafficking."

Abbott's comments come as former President Trump prepares to visit the Arizona border on Tuesday to highlight the Biden administration's immigration policies, which Republicans have criticized as too lenient.
Abbott claims that the Biden administration has intentionally unsecured the border by dismantling Trump-era policies such as "Remain in Mexico" and limiting access to asylum. "They knew that if they unsecured the border, it would lead to a surge in illegal immigration and drug trafficking," he said.

Abbott also criticized Democrats in Congress for blocking legislation that he says would have secured the border. "The Senate had a bill that would have done some good things, but the Democrats wouldn't even allow it to be debated," he said.
Abbott's comments echo those of other Republicans, who have accused the Biden administration of failing to address the border crisis. Republicans have called for increased border security measures, including the construction of a wall, increased border patrol agents, and stricter enforcement of immigration laws.

The Biden administration has defended its immigration policies, saying that they are more humane than those of the Trump administration. The administration has also pointed to a decrease in border crossings since the peak of the crisis in the spring of 2021.
However, Republicans argue that the border crisis is still ongoing and that the administration's policies are not doing enough to address it. They point to the fact that border crossings remain well above historical levels and that the number of people on the terror watch list apprehended at the border has increased.

The Biden administration has acknowledged that the border crisis is a challenge, but it has vowed to continue working to address it. The administration has also asked Congress for additional funding to address the crisis, but Republicans have resisted these requests, saying that the administration is not doing enough to secure the border.
The debate over immigration is likely to continue in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election. Republicans are hoping to use the issue to motivate their base and attract voters who are concerned about border security. Democrats, on the other hand, are trying to downplay the issue, arguing that it is not as serious as Republicans claim and that the Biden administration is taking steps to address it.
