The Las Vegas Aces have waived rookie guard Dyaisha Fair, the team announced today. Fair, a 2024 Associated Press All-America third team honoree, was acquired by the Aces in a trade with the New York Liberty on February 10, 2023.

Fair played three seasons for Buffalo starting in 2019-20, before transferring to Syracuse ahead of the 2022 season. As a senior at Syracuse, she averaged 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.

The Aces acquired Fair in a trade that sent veteran guard Riquna Williams to the Liberty. Fair was expected to compete for a backup point guard role behind All-Star starter Chelsea Gray.

However, Fair struggled to adjust to the WNBA during her short time with the Aces. She appeared in just three games, averaging 1.7 points and 1.0 assists per game.

The Aces have a deep and talented backcourt, which includes Gray, Kelsey Plum, and Jackie Young. Fair was likely to see limited playing time, and the Aces decided to waive her to open up a roster spot for another player.

Fair is a talented young player with a bright future. She is still only 22 years old and has plenty of time to develop her game. She will likely land on another WNBA roster soon and has the potential to be a valuable contributor.

The Aces, meanwhile, will continue to compete for a WNBA championship. They are currently tied for first place in the Western Conference with a record of 10-4. They will return to action on Tuesday, June 27, when they host the Phoenix Mercury.
