A man's voice can be heard pleading for assistance amidst the chaos, "We've got someone down!" as he frantically waves his arms. The camera pans towards the stage, where Trump, flanked by Secret Service agents, cautiously rises to his feet.
Law enforcement officers stand over the body of 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, the aspiring assassin who had opened fire from a nearby rooftop. Crooks' actions resulted in the death of 50-year-old Corey Comperatore and critical injuries to David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74.

Todd, an army veteran who declined to be fully identified, captured the video while attending the rally with his son. Although they had initially planned to attend together, Todd's son later decided not to accompany him. Todd's choice ultimately spared the boy from being in close proximity to the sniper's fire.
Todd described his position as being "in the lane of fire" between the shooter and Trump, but he remained oblivious to the danger as he listened to the former president's remarks. He only realized the gunshots were occurring directly behind him when he heard the distinct "crack-crack-crack" associated with gunfire.

Todd's video also exposed a glaring security lapse, as members of the Secret Service and law enforcement were hindered from exiting the secure perimeter due to a locked gate. Only after a deputy arrived and crashed through it did they gain access to respond to the situation.
Fortunately, a Secret Service counter-sniper neutralized Crooks before he could inflict further harm. However, the security breach has raised concerns about the adequacy of preparations for presidential candidate campaign events.

United States Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle acknowledged that Crooks had been identified as a "potential person of suspicion" prior to the assassination attempt. The agency was aware of the security vulnerabilities presented by the building where Crooks positioned himself, but chose not to deploy personnel on the roof due to safety concerns.
Todd, who escaped the incident unscathed, expressed a sense of gratitude and relief. "I shouldn't have been there that day, and that was God's plan for me for some reason," he said. He added that he had given his children Trump campaign hats inscribed with the date of the assassination attempt as a poignant reminder of their narrow escape.
