The No. 13 Texas A&M women's golf team sits in second place after the first round of the 2024 NCAA Championships, just one stroke behind the leader.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 13 Texas A&M women's golf team fired a 2-under 286 in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Championships on Friday and sits in second place behind top-three performances from Adela.

The Aggies are just one stroke behind No. 1 seed Stanford, which shot a 1-under 285 in the first round. No. 2 seed Duke is one stroke behind Texas A&M in third place at 1-over 289.

Adela led the way for the Aggies with a 3-under 69, which is tied for third place individually. She birdied four of her first six holes and made the turn at 3-under. She bogeyed the 10th hole but birdied the 12th and 17th holes to finish the day at 3-under.

"I'm really happy with how I played today," said Adela. "I hit the ball well and made some putts. I'm looking forward to the next two rounds."

Hailey Davidson is tied for ninth place individually after shooting an even-par 72 in the first round. She birdied three holes and bogeyed three holes in her round.

Tatum Gretzky is tied for 19th place individually after shooting a 1-over 73 in the first round. She birdied two holes and bogeyed three holes in her round.

Freshman Blanca Fernández García is tied for 32nd place individually after shooting a 2-over 74 in the first round. She birdied one hole and bogeyed three holes in her round.

"We're in a good position after the first round," said Texas A&M head coach Gerrod Chadwell. "We're just one stroke behind the leader, and we have three players in the top 20. We just need to keep playing our game and see what happens."

The second round of the NCAA Championships will be played on Saturday. The Aggies will tee off at 8:50 a.m. CT.

* The Aggies have won four national championships (1984, 1986, 1990, and 1991) and were the NCAA runners-up in 2001 and 2007.

* Texas A&M is making its 28th appearance in the NCAA Championships.

* The Aggies are one of five SEC teams competing in the NCAA Championships this year.

* The other SEC teams in the field are No. 1 seed Alabama, No. 2 seed Vanderbilt, No. 4 seed Florida, and No. 10 seed South Carolina.

* The NCAA Championships are being played at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

* The par-72 course is 6,461 yards long.

* The field consists of 24 teams and 12 individuals.

* The top eight teams after the second round will advance to the match play portion of the tournament.
