Following the dismissal of involuntary manslaughter charges against actor Alec Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed has filed an expedited motion for a new trial or dismissal of her case.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer charged in the fatal shooting on the set of "Rust," has filed an expedited motion for a new trial or dismissal of her case following the shocking dismissal of involuntary manslaughter charges against actor Alec Baldwin.

Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but a Santa Fe judge dismissed the case against Baldwin on Friday, July 12, ruling that the prosecution had concealed evidence from his legal team.

The judge dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning the charge cannot be brought against Baldwin again.

"The state's willful withholding of this information was intentional and deliberate," Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer said. "If this conduct does not rise to the level of bad faith, it certainly comes so near to bad faith as to show signs of scorching prejudice."

The judge added: "There is no way for the court to right this wrong."

Reed's motion for a new trial or dismissal was filed on Tuesday, July 19. The motion argues that the prosecution violated Reed's right to due process by withholding evidence from her defense team.

The prosecution has yet to respond to Reed's motion.

During her trial, prosecutors argued that Reed was negligent in her duties as an armorer, failing to properly check the gun that Baldwin fired, which contained a live round instead of a blank.

Reed's attorney, Jason Bowles, argued that there were factors outside of Reed's control that occurred on set, leading to the fatal shooting.

"Whoever put the live round on set and then Mr. Baldwin, in the end, going off script and doing what he did," Bowles said. "Those are outside events outside of Ms. Gutierrez Reed's control that she didn't know was going to happen."

Baldwin has denied any wrongdoing in the shooting, claiming that he was told the gun was unloaded.

The dismissal of Baldwin's charges has raised questions about the fairness of the justice system and the treatment of celebrities versus non-celebrities.

Reed is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence for her conviction. If her motion for a new trial or dismissal is granted, it could overturn her conviction and set her free.
