The calls depict a chaotic scene with terrified students hiding in classrooms and parents desperately seeking information about their children's safety.

The chilling 911 calls from the Apalachee High School shooting in Georgia have been released to the public, offering a harrowing glimpse into the chaos and fear that unfolded on that fateful day.

Released on Friday by authorities, the audio recordings primarily feature terrified parents desperately checking on the well-being of their children. As the calls flooded into the Barrow County 911 call center around 10:20 am, many were met with the automated message that the center had a "high call volume."

One frantic parent, unable to find the words to describe the harrowing scene as relayed by her daughter, exclaimed, "My daughter calling me crying. Somebody go, 'boom, boom, boom, boom.'"

The agreed-upon response given to callers that morning explained that officers were on the scene, but details could not be provided. Apalachee High School was immediately placed on lockdown, along with nearby Yargo Elementary School and Haymon-Morris Middle School.

Unable to reach their children, parents expressed concern and desperation. "I'm scared to death," one parent said, while another pleaded, "Please tell me if my daughter is okay."

The calls also provide insight into the confusion and tension amidst the lockdown. "We're in the classroom hiding, and we don't know what's going on," one student reported. Another caller, a teacher, described how they were barricading doors and keeping students calm.

Tragically, the shooting claimed the lives of 14-year-old students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, and teachers Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall. The attack left the community reeling and searching for answers.

Authorities have stated that most of the emergency calls made that day cannot be released due to Georgia law, which prohibits the release of "the speech or cries of a minor." However, the released calls provide a partial glimpse into the harrowing events of that day.

Colt Gray, 14, and his father, Colin Gray, 54, are both in custody facing charges for the killings, with Colt being tried as an adult. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the community continues to mourn the victims and support the survivors.
