Arch Manning, the highly touted quarterback from the legendary Manning family, will once again serve as the backup to Quinn Ewers at Texas. Despite his limited playing time, Manning is embracing his role and using it as an opportunity to develop and prepare for the future.

Arch Manning's sophomore season at Texas will be spent in the familiar role of backup quarterback. While some might see this as a setback, Manning is embracing the opportunity to learn and grow behind the experienced Quinn Ewers.

Despite being a highly touted recruit and the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, Manning saw limited playing time in his freshman campaign. Ewers, a highly skilled quarterback in his own right, handled the starting duties, leaving Manning with just a few appearances on the field.

However, Manning has not let his backup role deter him. Instead, he has used it as a platform to develop his skills and gain valuable experience. In the recent Texas spring game, Manning showcased his abilities, throwing for 355 yards and three touchdowns.

"I think that he [Manning] gains a lot," said Ewers during an appearance on the "RG3 and The Ones" podcast. "Being able to sit back and watch, I think it’s different than playing. So him seeing what’s going on from inside, but also outside, I think that he can get a lot of intel from that."

Ewers, the starting quarterback, believes that Manning's role as a backup can ultimately benefit him in the long run.

"Not being from the state and coming in, and it’s obviously a little different. I think he’s got more time to grow his pride and love for the university. Obviously, he loves the university and loves the Longhorns, but kind of being able to sit back and watch, I think it’s different than playing," stated Ewers.

Ewers also pointed out that Manning's second year in the system will provide him with ample time to master the intricacies of the offense and become more comfortable on the field.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has made it clear that Ewers will remain the starting quarterback this season. However, he has also expressed his hope that Manning will see some game action in the early part of the season.

"Hopefully, we can find some opportunities early in the season where we can get Arch some valuable experience, and even Trey for that matter just to get them comfortable playing," Sarkisian said at the SEC Spring meetings.

The Longhorns open their 2024 regular season on Aug. 31 against the Colorado State Rams, giving Manning an opportunity to showcase his development and earn playing time.

While Manning may not be the starting quarterback at the moment, his backup role is a valuable step in his journey to becoming the future leader of the Texas Longhorns.

By observing Ewers and gaining experience in practice, Manning is preparing for the day when he will take the reins of the offense. His patience and dedication to growth will undoubtedly pay off in the long run, solidifying his legacy as a member of the Manning dynasty and a force to be reckoned with in college football.
