After reporting his wife missing, Daniel Paduchowski confessed to killing her and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Arizona man Daniel Paduchowski has pleaded guilty to murdering his wife, Kelly, after initially reporting her missing.

Paduchowski, 58, reported his wife missing on June 30, claiming she never returned from a run and swim. However, he later confessed to police and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

According to officials and court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, Paduchowski's initial report was an attempt to mislead law enforcement. Police arrested him on Monday for aggravated assault, and his wife's remains were found on Friday morning after a week-long search.

Paduchowski's plea deal requires him to serve a 16-year sentence in the Arizona Department of Corrections, which is the presumptive sentence for second-degree murder under Arizona law. He will not be eligible for early release.

As part of the plea agreement, Paduchowski provided information that led investigators to Kelly's phone, keys, and the murder weapon.

Investigators previously determined that cellphone data from Kelly's phone traced her to the Schultz Creek Trailhead on the day she disappeared. Daniel was also seen in the same area later that morning.

Evidence from the Paduchowskis' home also indicated that Daniel had assaulted his wife before her disappearance.

"This is obviously a monumental tragedy for Kelly's family and her loved ones," said Michael Tunink, senior criminal attorney at the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. "We've been in close communication with Kelly's family throughout this process about this resolution, which we pursued to bring finality in a situation that has weighed heavily on this community."
