The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has successfully gained access to the phone belonging to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who allegedly attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
This development was announced in a press release issued by the FBI on Monday, which stated that "FBI technical specialists successfully gained access to Thomas Matthew Crooks’ phone, and they continue to analyze his electronic devices."

Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation have confirmed that the weapon used by Crooks, a DPMS AR-15 5.56, is currently undergoing forensic analysis at the FBI's laboratories in Quantico, Virginia. Additionally, his phone, laptop, and an improvised explosive device (IED) found in his vehicle are also being examined by the FBI.
The FBI has completed its search of Crooks' home and vehicle, confiscating over a dozen firearms from his residence. His family continues to cooperate with the investigation.

A spokesperson for the House Homeland Security Committee issued a statement to Fox News, outlining the current status of the investigation and the next steps to be taken. The committee emphasized that the FBI is primarily focused on investigating the perpetrator, his motives, potential connections, and establishing a timeline of events, while the Secret Service is conducting a separate review of its security protocols.
The FBI has conducted nearly 100 interviews with law enforcement personnel, attendees, and witnesses, and has received a substantial number of digital media tips, including photos and videos captured at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting began shortly after the attack, with agents visiting Crooks' home and the homes of his parents on Sunday and Monday. The incident is being investigated as both an assassination attempt and a potential act of domestic terrorism.
Trump broke his silence on the assassination attempt on Monday, stating that he is alive "by luck or by God." He informed the New York Post that he had narrowly escaped a potentially fatal bullet by slightly turning his head to the right to read a chart on illegal immigration.
