Upon arrival, deputies found a large crowd and multiple victims. Four additional individuals were transported to hospitals in Manatee and Sarasota counties. The Sheriff's Office has described the shooting as an isolated incident, and the motive remains under investigation.
Battie, a native of Orlando, Florida, began his collegiate career at the University of South Florida in 2020. He quickly rose to prominence, becoming a starting running back in 2022 and earning All-American honors as a return specialist in 2021.
During his time with the Bulls, Battie rushed for 1,185 yards and eight touchdowns. He transferred to Auburn after the 2022 season and contributed with 227 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Auburn University has not yet commented on the incident. The Tigers are currently in the offseason following a 6-7 campaign in 2023.
The shooting has sent shockwaves through the college football community. Battie is a talented and respected player, and the news of his injury has brought expressions of concern and support from across the country.
