After a heartbreaking backyard accident, the family of 5-year-old Aurora Masters finds solace in her organ donation, knowing her heart continues to beat somewhere, bringing light amidst the darkness.
In the aftermath of a tragic backyard accident that claimed the life of 5-year-old Aurora Masters of Fort Collins, Colorado, her family has found comfort in her selfless act of organ donation. The plucky girl's heart now beats somewhere, offering a ray of hope amidst the profound loss.
Aurora's great-aunt, Brenda Kennedy, expressed the family's gratitude for the organ donation, stating, "We know that her heart is beating somewhere. It genuinely helps me to know that."
Recalling Aurora's vibrant personality, Kennedy described her as "living her best life every day," leaving an indelible mark on those who knew her. "She lived, she loved, and she made this world better by being in it. That's the lesson!" she emphasized.
On May 8, Aurora was enjoying a swing in her backyard when tragedy struck. The rope became entangled around her neck, causing catastrophic oxygen deprivation and permanent brain damage.
Her parents, Krystal and Tom Masters, rushed to their daughter's aid but were met with a heart-wrenching sight. "I saw her in the tree with the swing wrapped around her neck," Krystal recalled.
Despite their desperate efforts, Aurora's injuries were too severe. After an MRI revealed the extent of her brain damage, the family made the difficult decision to shift to end-of-life care and organ donation.
Aurora's organs were donated to Donor Alliance, an organization dedicated to facilitating organ and tissue transplantation. Her selfless act brings hope to those awaiting life-saving surgeries.
"We are incredibly grateful that Aurora's organs could save lives," Tom Masters said. "It helps us to know that a part of her is still making a difference in the world."
Described as "a ray of sunshine" and "a ninja of bravery," Aurora's magnetic personality left a lasting impression on all who encountered her.
Krystal Masters fondly remembered her daughter's love of dance, saying, "There wasn't a day we didn't dance."
Aurora's infectious joy extended beyond her family; she would greet strangers in traffic with a wave and a smile, hoping to spread happiness wherever she went.
Aurora's tragic accident has left an unfillable void in her family's hearts, but they find solace in honoring her memory and celebrating her life.
"Our hearts are shattered, but we continue the journey to honor and celebrate her worldly gifts," the GoFundMe page dedicated to Aurora reads.
A funeral service will be held for Aurora on June 8, where her loved ones and community will gather to bid farewell and pay tribute to her indomitable spirit.
In the face of their unimaginable loss, the Masters family shares a poignant message for parents: "Love your kids every minute, have a dance party and just live life. Because you never know when it's going away."
Aurora's story serves as a reminder to cherish the precious moments with our loved ones and to live life to the fullest. Her legacy of kindness, joy, and selflessness will continue to inspire those who knew her and touch the lives of many more through the gift of organ donation.
