The Colorado Avalanche put on a dominant performance in their Toyota Game Recap on May 12, 2024, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-2. Leading the way was Nathan MacKinnon, who had a goal and two assists.
MacKinnon opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal. He then assisted on goals by Mikko Rantanen and Valeri Nichushkin in the second period. Rantanen's goal was a beautiful one-timer from the slot, while Nichushkin's goal was a backhander from in close.
The Avalanche continued to pour it on in the third period. MacKinnon assisted on another goal, this time by Cale Makar. Makar's goal was a wrist shot from the blue line that beat Oilers goalie Mike Smith clean.
Devon Toews added an empty-net goal in the final minute of the game to seal the victory.
Pavel Francouz was solid in goal for the Avalanche, stopping 33 of 35 shots. Smith was not as sharp, allowing five goals on 30 shots.
The Avalanche's victory was their fourth in a row and improved their record to 5-1-0. The Oilers fell to 3-3-0 with the loss.
The Avalanche will be back in action on Friday, May 15, when they host the Calgary Flames. The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday, May 16, when they host the Vancouver Canucks.
