The CEO of the company that built the luxury yacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Italy, has blamed a series of "indescribable, unreasonable errors" by the crew for the vessel's demise. Six people are still missing after the incident.

Grainy CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment a storm struck the British-flagged luxury yacht Bavarian, causing it to sink off the coast of Italy on August 19, 2024. Six people remain missing, according to officials.

The yacht sank within minutes of being hit by a predawn storm while anchored off the coast of northern Sicily. It had 22 people on board - 12 passengers and 10 crew members.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, which includes Perini Navi, the Italian high-end yacht maker that built the Bavarian in 2008, has placed the blame for the sinking on the yacht's crew.

In an interview, Costantino stated that the yacht suffered "a series of indescribable, unreasonable errors. The impossible happened on that boat... but it went down because it took on water. From where, the investigators will tell."

Costantino emphasized that the yacht's construction and design were not at fault, as it had navigated successfully for 16 years without any issues, including in more severe weather conditions.

The CEO specifically criticized the crew's "incredible mistake" of not being prepared for the storm, which was forecast in shipping reports.

According to Costantino, safety measures that should have been implemented included alerting passengers, securing doors and hatches, and lowering the keel to increase stability.

"This is the mistake that cries out for vengeance," Costantino asserted.

Among the six missing individuals is billionaire tech mogul Mike Lynch, who was aboard the Bavarian to celebrate his recent acquittal in a U.S. fraud case.

Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah, American lawyer Christopher Morvillo, and Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer, who testified in Lynch's defense, are also among the missing.

Divers have been searching for the missing individuals in the hull of the Bayesian, which now rests on the seabed 164 feet underwater. While the operation is considered a recovery mission due to the lack of signs of life over three days of searching, one woman remains unaccounted for.

Investigators continue to probe the cause of the rapid sinking of the superyacht.
