The Chicago Bears have made a significant move to enhance their defense, acquiring pass rusher Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 draft pick. Taylor brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of getting to the quarterback, providing a much-needed boost to the Bears' defensive front.
The Chicago Bears have bolstered their pass rush with the acquisition of veteran defensive lineman Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks. The move, which was announced on Friday, addresses a key need for the Bears, who have struggled to generate consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks in recent years.
Bears Beef Up Pass Rush with Acquisition of Darrell Taylor
Taylor, 27, is a versatile and experienced pass rusher who has played both outside linebacker and defensive end in his NFL career. He was a second-round pick by the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft and has amassed 9.5 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and 12 tackles for loss in his three seasons with Seattle.
In 2022, Taylor started 11 games for the Seahawks and recorded 4.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and 6 tackles for loss. He has shown the ability to generate pressure from both the outside and the interior, making him a valuable addition to the Bears' defensive front.
The Bears have struggled to get to the quarterback in recent years, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in sacks and quarterback pressure. The addition of Taylor, who has a proven track record as a pass rusher, is expected to provide a much-needed boost.
Taylor is expected to play a key role in the Bears' new 4-3 defensive scheme under coordinator Matt Eberflus. He will be paired with fellow edge rusher Robert Quinn, who was acquired by the Bears in a trade with the Rams earlier this year.
The Seahawks are receiving a 2025 draft pick in return for Taylor. The Bears are sending the Seahawks their seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which is currently the 226th overall pick.
The Bears are hoping that the acquisition of Taylor will help them improve their overall defensive performance. The team finished 30th in the NFL in scoring defense in 2022, allowing an average of 27.2 points per game.
Taylor is expected to join the Bears for their offseason program, which begins in April. He will have the opportunity to compete for a starting role in the Bears' defense and help the team make a push for contention in the NFC North.
The acquisition of Taylor is the latest move by the Bears to bolster their roster this offseason. The team has also signed offensive tackle Riley Reiff, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, and defensive back Theo Jackson.
The Bears are hoping that the addition of Taylor will help them make a significant improvement in 2023. The team has struggled in recent years, but the acquisition of Taylor, along with other offseason moves, could help the Bears challenge for a playoff spot in the upcoming season.
