Jonathan Bryce Schubert, a 27-year-old man and neighbor of slain nurse Melissa Jubane, appeared in court for the first time on Monday, facing charges of second-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree abuse of a corpse.
On Monday, Jonathan Bryce Schubert, 27, made his initial court appearance in connection with the murder of Oregon nurse Melissa Jubane, who was found dead days after being reported missing. Schubert is accused of second-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree abuse of a corpse. During the arraignment, Schubert appeared via video conference and did not enter a plea. He is currently being held without bail at the Washington County jail.
The tragic discovery of Jubane's remains on Saturday came after an extensive three-day search. The 32-year-old nurse had vanished days after returning home from her wedding to Bryan Llantero in Hawaii. Investigators believe Schubert, a neighbor of Jubane's, played a role in her disappearance and eventual death.

According to authorities, Schubert worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023. However, he was not employed at Providence St. Vincent, the hospital where Jubane worked, according to a statement released by Providence on Saturday morning.
Beaverton police confirmed that Jubane's remains were located following a three-day search. The news came just two weeks after she tied the knot with Llantero. The community has rallied around Jubane's family and friends, offering support and prayers during this difficult time.

"We are extremely grateful for the detectives and other staff working diligently on this case, for the love and support we are receiving from the entire nation (especially from the city of Beaverton and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, her work family at Providence St Vincent’s, and the Llantero family), and for all the prayers."
