Senator Bernie Sanders condemned political violence and "radical rhetoric" following the assassination attempt on former President Trump. Sanders emphasized that political violence is unacceptable and un-American, calling for an end to such actions.
Senator Bernie Sanders has expressed his strong condemnation of political violence and "radical rhetoric" in the wake of the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump. During an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Sanders denounced such acts as unacceptable and un-American.
"I think everybody in this country, no matter what their political views, wishes former President Trump a rapid and speedy recovery, mourns the loss of innocent lives and those who are wounded, and understands that political violence of any kind or shape or form is unacceptable. It is un-American," Sanders stated.

The senator stressed the need to put an end to political violence and called for a pause in the current heated political climate. "I think in this traumatic moment, it's time for all of us to take a deep breath, remember what this is about and what political campaigns are about. And they're about serious discussions of serious ideas as to how we address the serious problems facing this country," Sanders said.
Sanders also condemned "radical rhetoric" without specifying its exact nature. In recent days, Republicans have criticized Democrats for their past rhetoric, which they believe has contributed to the current climate of political violence. A rally goer was killed, and two other men were critically wounded in the Trump rally shooting incident.

"The bottom line is what we need as a nation, what a democracy is about is not radical rhetoric," Sanders asserted. "What it is about is a serious discussion of where we are as a nation and how we go forward, forward."
Sanders emphasized the importance of engaging in constructive, fact-based political discourse, focusing on solutions to the country's pressing problems. "We have massive income and wealth inequality. Well, maybe a boring discussion. Should three people own more wealth than the bottom half of American society?" Sanders argued.

Despite his criticism of political violence and radical rhetoric, Sanders reiterated his support for Biden as the Democratic nominee. He praised Biden's record in office, citing efforts to lower prescription drug costs, rebuild infrastructure, and address climate change.
Sanders recognized the challenges facing Biden, including recent gaffes and a less-than-stellar debate performance against Trump, but he remains confident in Biden's ability to lead the country. "President Biden is the strongest candidate the Democrats have," Sanders said.
