Senator Lindsey Graham slams President Biden's decision to withhold weapons from Israel, arguing that it will only embolden Hamas and worsen the region's instability.
Senator Lindsey Graham has sharply criticized President Biden's decision to withhold weapons from Israel, calling it "heartbreaking" and a "nightmare" for the Jewish state. Graham warned that Biden's move would only embolden Hamas and further destabilize the Middle East.
In an appearance on "Hannity," Graham said the only way to reverse the "heartbreaking" trajectory of the Middle East was to vote Biden out of office in November.
Graham's comments came after Biden vowed to withhold weapons aid to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proceeds with an invasion of Rafah, Hamas' last stronghold in Gaza.
"Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers," Biden said in an interview with CNN's Erin Burnett.
"I made it clear that if they go into Rafah – they haven’t gone in Rafah yet – if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem," Biden said.
Graham dismissed Biden's concerns, saying that Biden was asking Israel to "turn the war over" to him and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. He urged Israel not to do so, warning that Biden and Austin would "do for you what they've done for America."
Graham argued that Biden's decision would make it more difficult to achieve a hostage deal with Hamas, as well as jeopardize Saudi Arabia's recognition of Israel.
"Who in their right mind in Saudi Arabia would turn their national security over to Joe Biden?" Graham asked. "This is heartbreaking, it is as dangerous as pouring gasoline on a fire."
Graham's comments reflect the growing dissatisfaction among Republicans with Biden's handling of the Middle East crisis. Many Republicans believe that Biden is being too soft on Iran and Hamas, and that his policies are weakening Israel's security.
The Biden administration has defended its decision to withhold weapons from Israel, saying that it is necessary to avoid further civilian casualties in Gaza. However, critics argue that Biden's move will only embolden Hamas and prolong the conflict.
The situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile, and it is unclear how Biden's decision to withhold weapons from Israel will affect the crisis. However, it is clear that the region is facing a long and difficult road ahead.
