The recent promotion of Tyler Cherry as an associate communications director in the White House has sparked controversy, with critics pointing to resurfaced social media posts that allegedly contain anti-police, anti-Israel, and anti-Republican sentiments.
The Biden administration's decision to promote Tyler Cherry has come under fire after it emerged that the White House official had deleted thousands of his tweets following a public outcry over their controversial content.
Cherry, formerly an official at the Department of Interior, was elevated to associate communications director earlier this month. However, social media users quickly drew attention to his past tweets, which included attacks on police, criticism of Republicans, and anti-Israel rhetoric.

According to Social Blade, Cherry deleted nearly 2,500 tweets between Sunday night and Monday morning. The move was met with suspicion, with some questioning whether it was Cherry or the Biden White House that instigated the mass deletion.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Cherry defended his past posts, claiming they were made when he was younger and do not reflect his current views. He pledged his support for the Biden administration's agenda, particularly on climate and environmental policies.

However, the deleted tweets have raised concerns among critics, who argue that they paint a disturbing picture of Cherry's past beliefs. One highlighted post from 2014 expressed support for ending the occupation of Palestine, while another in 2015 equated the modern-day police system to slave patrols and lynch mobs.
In 2018, Cherry also called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the federal agency responsible for border security and immigration enforcement. Additionally, he has a history of criticizing Republicans, particularly conservative members of the party.

The White House has defended its decision to promote Cherry, with senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates expressing pride in having him on the team. However, inquiries about the deleted tweets have gone unanswered.
The controversy has sparked a broader debate about the role of social media in assessing the character and suitability of public officials. Some argue that deleted or past posts should not necessarily disqualify someone from serving, while others contend that they provide valuable insights into an individual's beliefs and values.
As the administration continues to face scrutiny, it remains to be seen whether Cherry's past tweets will have any long-term impact on his role in the Biden White House.
