"I decided to travel around the world a couple of times… shortly before the debate…I didn’t listen to my staff… and then I almost fell asleep on stage," Biden said during the fundraiser.

Biden's explanation comes amid growing calls for him to step down. Several Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, have publicly urged him to withdraw from the race.
