MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski challenges the Biden campaign's decision to hold a press conference outside Donald Trump's court proceedings with actor Robert De Niro, questioning the appropriateness of politicizing such proceedings.
MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski has expressed her concern over the Biden campaign's decision to hold a press conference outside Donald Trump's criminal trial in Manhattan, challenging the campaign's communications director Michael Tyler on the issue.
Brzezinski questioned the location of the press conference, stating that she found it inappropriate to politicize a court proceeding. She compared the campaign's actions to those of members of Congress who showed up to support Trump last week, which she had also found unbecoming.
Tyler defended the campaign's decision, stating that they had to be creative in reaching the electorate and that Trump's trial was taking up a lot of media attention, hence the need to find other ways to communicate their message.
During the press conference, actor Robert De Niro, who joined the Biden campaign, made controversial statements, including expressing his belief that Trump wanted to "destroy the city and the country." De Niro also said that Trump didn't belong in New York City and that he used to tolerate him when he was just a "grubby real estate hustler."
Brzezinski questioned Tyler about the potential backfire of the campaign getting too close to court proceedings, but Tyler remained confident that the focus was on highlighting the threat to democracy that Trump posed.
He mentioned that the campaign would continue to be creative in their approach to reaching voters, as they understood the increasingly fragmented media environment and the need to break through clutter.
De Niro had expressed his motivation for joining the Biden campaign as preserving freedoms and "holding on to our humanity." He denounced Trump's actions and emphasized that he didn't think Trump belonged in New York City.
The press conference had garnered attention online, with some raising concerns about its appropriateness and potential impact on the ongoing trial proceedings.
