President Biden is facing increasing calls from Democrats to drop out of the 2024 presidential race, with five more House Democrats joining the chorus of lawmakers urging him to step aside.

President Biden is reportedly facing mounting pressure from within his family to reconsider his decision to run for re-election in 2024, as concerns grow over his age and fitness for office. The Wall Street Journal reported that Biden's family has been discussing a possible exit plan, which would involve the president stepping down before the end of his term.

The report comes amid a growing chorus of Democrats calling on Biden to drop out of the race, with five more House Democrats joining the movement on Friday. The lawmakers, led by Rep. Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), cited the president's declining poll numbers and concerns about his age and fitness as reasons for their request.

Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas), the first member of the Congressional Black Caucus to call for Biden's withdrawal, expressed similar concerns. "At this point, however, we must face the reality that widespread public concerns about your age and fitness are jeopardizing what should be a winning campaign," he said.

In addition to the House Democrats, three Democratic senators have also called on Biden to step aside. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) stated that he believes it is in the best interests of the country for Biden to withdraw from the race.

Behind the scenes, Democratic party officials, top donors, and key Biden allies are reportedly urging the president to reconsider his decision to stay in the race. Should Biden drop out ahead of the Democratic National Committee convention in August, Vice President Kamala Harris is acknowledged to be in the best position to receive the party's nomination.

However, some Democrats fear that Harris would also lose to former President Trump and prefer an open convention to nominate a candidate unaffiliated with the current administration.
