President Biden dismissed concerns that he was manipulating the Justice Department to prosecute former President Trump, saying, "I didn't do anything wrong."
President Biden defended the integrity of the justice system and dismissed claims that the guilty verdict against former President Trump was politically motivated, stating, "The system still works." Responding to questions from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, Biden expressed confidence in the judicial process and rejected the notion that he had any influence on the prosecution.
When asked about the potential impact of the conviction on Trump's presidential ambitions, Biden replied, "I have no idea." He also dismissed concerns about the possibility of facing similar charges in the future, saying, "Not at all. I didn't do anything wrong."
Biden denounced Trump's accusations that he was manipulating the justice system for political gain. "I didn't know I was that powerful," Biden joked. Earlier in the day, Biden had remained silent when asked about Trump's claims that he was a "political prisoner" who was being targeted by the Biden administration.
Addressing the broader implications of the verdict, Biden emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law. "The American principle that no one is above the law was reaffirmed," he said. "It’s reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible for anyone to say this was ‘rigged’ just because they don’t like the verdict."
Biden's remarks come amid ongoing criticism from Trump and his supporters, who have accused Democrats of using lawfare to undermine his candidacy. The guilty verdict in the New York trial, which found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records, has been met with mixed reactions.
Trump's legal team has vowed to challenge the verdict, arguing that the charges were politically motivated and that the evidence against him was insufficient. The prosecution, led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, has maintained that Trump knowingly and intentionally falsified business records to conceal payments made to silence porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
The verdict has drawn attention to the potential legal consequences facing Trump as he mulls a potential run for the presidency in 2024. Trump has repeatedly claimed that the charges against him are part of a "witch hunt" and that he is the victim of a politically motivated prosecution.
Despite the guilty verdict, Trump remains a popular figure among Republican voters. His supporters have rallied around him, arguing that he is being unjustly targeted by Democrats. The outcome of any future legal challenges will likely have a significant impact on Trump's political trajectory and the broader political landscape in the United States.
