President Biden has called for an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict and urged Hamas to accept a peace deal proposed by Israel. However, some remain skeptical about the details of the deal and whether it will lead to lasting peace.
President Biden has urged Hamas to accept a new peace deal on offer from Israel, but some remain skeptical about the details of the deal and whether it was Israel who proposed the deal in the first place.
The Israeli government has confirmed that it has presented an outline for a peace deal, but the details of the plan have not been made public. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the plan includes a conditional transition between stages, allowing Israel to maintain its principles of returning hostages and eliminating Hamas' military capabilities.
The deal reportedly includes a three-phased ceasefire:
* **Phase 1:** Israeli forces would fully withdraw from populated areas of Gaza, and a number of hostages would be released in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and the return of deceased hostages' remains.
* **Phase 2:** Negotiations would continue to help the deal move from Phase One, which would include the release of all remaining living hostages.
* **Phase 3:** A thorough reconstruction plan for Gaza would be implemented.
Biden has described the deal as "comprehensive" and a "roadmap to an enduring ceasefire and the release of all hostages." He has also claimed the deal would allow 600 trucks with humanitarian aid to enter Gaza "every single day" and reach those who needed it most.
However, some have quickly taken a critical stance on the proposal. Richard Goldberg, a senior advisor at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital that the deal on offer would not end Hamas but instead help them escape total annihilation.
Concerns have also been raised about Biden's vow to withhold weapons from Israel, with Netanyahu warning that it could result in civilian casualties inside Gaza.
Despite the skepticism, Biden has urged those who want peace to raise their voices and support the deal. He has stressed that Hamas faces "truly a decisive moment."
The outcome of the peace negotiations remains uncertain, but Biden's intervention has brought renewed attention to the conflict and the urgent need for a resolution.
