In his first public remarks on the matter, President Biden expressed pride in his son Hunter despite his recent conviction on federal gun charges. While respecting the jury's decision, Biden stated that he would not pardon his son.

President Biden has broken his silence on the federal gun charges conviction against his son, Hunter Biden, expressing pride in his son's battle with addiction but emphasizing that he will abide by the jury's decision and not use his presidential powers to pardon him.

During a press conference at the G7 summit in Italy, Biden addressed questions regarding Hunter's recent conviction. Asked about whether he believed his son received a fair trial and if the Justice Department operated independently of politics, Biden responded by praising Hunter's resilience and character.

"I'm extremely proud of my son, Hunter," Biden stated. "He has overcome an addiction. He has. He's one of the brightest, most decent men I know. And I am satisfied that I'm not going to do anything. I said, I said, I’d abide by the jury decision. I will do that, and I will not pardon him."

Hunter Biden was found guilty of federal gun charges by a Delaware jury on Tuesday and faces a possible prison sentence of up to 25 years. However, it is unlikely that he will receive the maximum penalty.

When questioned about the Gaza situation and Hamas's response, Biden expressed frustration with the reporters' line of questioning. "I wish you guys would play by the rules a little bit," he said. "I'm here to talk about a critical situation in Ukraine. You're asking another subject."

Biden acknowledged the agreement made between the U.N. Security Council, the G7, and the Israelis, with Hamas refusing to sign on. He highlighted the need for continued diplomatic efforts and stated that he did not have a final answer on whether or not a deal would come to fruition.

The White House was contacted by Fox News Digital for clarification on the "rules" Biden referred to, but no immediate response was received.

Biden's comments mark the first time he has publicly addressed Hunter's legal issues since the conviction. The president has previously expressed his love and support for his son while maintaining a distance from the criminal proceedings.

The Biden family has faced intense scrutiny over Hunter's business dealings and personal life, particularly during his father's presidential campaign. President Biden has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing on his or his family's part, despite ongoing investigations.

The G7 summit, which focuses on addressing global challenges such as climate change, the Ukraine war, and the COVID-19 pandemic, has served as a platform for President Biden to engage with world leaders and discuss pressing issues.

In addition to the questions on his son and the Gaza situation, Biden also faced queries on expanding U.S. weapons parameters in Russia and the diplomatic efforts made to secure the release of American basketball player Brittney Griner, detained in Russia.

The president reiterated his commitment to supporting Ukraine and condemned Russian aggression, while emphasizing the need for diplomatic efforts to secure Griner's safe return.
