President Biden has announced he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. The move comes amid mounting pressure from Democrats and after a series of high-profile gaffes.
Former President Donald Trump has harshly criticized President Biden's decision to suspend his re-election campaign and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump, now the official Republican nominee for 2024, called Biden "the worst president in the history of our country" and said he "was not fit to serve."
Trump's comments came after Biden's announcement on Sunday that he would end his campaign and focus on his duties as president for the remainder of his term. The decision came after a disastrous debate performance last month and increasing pressure from Democrats who believe Biden is no longer capable of winning the election against Trump.

In a statement released on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Biden "was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement."
Trump also said that "all those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn't capable of being President, and he wasn't." He added that Biden's presidency has "done damage" to the country and that he would "remedy the damage he has done very quickly."

Biden's announcement came as a surprise to many, as he had previously vowed to seek re-election. However, he has faced mounting pressure from his own party, with several top Democrats publicly calling for him to step aside.
Polls have consistently shown Trump holding significant leads over Biden, and Democrats have grown increasingly concerned that Biden's advanced age and propensity for gaffes would make him a liability in the general election.

In a public letter, Biden said that he believes it is in the best interests of the party and the country for him to step down. He thanked Vice President Harris for her partnership and expressed his gratitude to the American people for their faith in him.
Biden's decision leaves Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee for 2024. Harris is a former California senator and the first woman of color to serve as vice president.
