President Biden is facing increasing pressure from within the Democratic Party to abandon his 2024 campaign, with some questioning his capability and electability after a disastrous debate performance. The New York Times reports that Biden has told an ally that he may not be able to win re-election if he cannot convince Americans he is fit to serve.
Former Clinton adviser Doug Schoen believes that President Biden may have "no choice" but to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race due to mounting concerns within the Democratic Party. Schoen's comments follow a New York Times report indicating that Biden has privately expressed doubts about his ability to win re-election if he fails to demonstrate his fitness for office.
According to Schoen, if the Democratic establishment, congressional leadership, and grassroots of the party voice concerns about Biden's capability and age, he will be forced to drop out. He added that the current political environment, with key swing states showing comfortable leads for Biden's opponents, makes it politically untenable for him to remain in the race.

Schoen further emphasized that if Biden's cognitive issues, as evident in his recent debate performance, persist, he will likely withdraw within weeks.
The New York Times reported that Biden has confided in a "key ally" his concerns about his electability. White House spokesman Andrew Bates denied the report, claiming that the Times did not provide sufficient time for comment.
Biden Weighs 2024 Future Amid Pressure from Democrats, Internal Concerns
Biden, the oldest president in US history at 81, is facing significant challenges in his bid for a second term. His halting delivery and faltering answers at the CNN Presidential Debate sparked widespread panic within the Democratic Party, leading to calls for his withdrawal as the party's standard-bearer.
In recent days, an increasing number of elected Democrats have publicly urged Biden to end his re-election campaign. Among them is Congressman Tim Ryan, who stated that Biden is "not up to the job" and should step aside.
The White House has defended Biden's fitness for office, attributing his debate performance to a lack of rest and preparation. However, the president's age and mental acuity have become a major concern for Democrats, with some expressing reservations about his ability to serve a full second term.
As pressure mounts, Biden is reportedly weighing his future in the race. A decision is expected in the coming weeks or months.
