Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki criticized President Biden's interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, calling it "just okay" and "not a home run."
Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki has critiqued President Biden's recent interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, describing it as "just okay" and not a "home run." Psaki, now an MSNBC host, made her comments during the opening monologue of her show on Sunday.
Psaki's assessment comes amid growing calls from some Democratic figures for Biden to step down following his perceived lackluster performance in the June debate against former President Trump. In the interview with Stephanopoulos, Biden attempted to address his critics and push back against concerns about his age and stamina.

However, Psaki believes that the interview may not have been enough to change the tide of public opinion. She noted that while Biden appeared more prepared and coherent than he had in the debate, there were also moments that did not go well.
"When the interview ended, it left us all in this sort of purgatory for the moment," Psaki said. "It was better than the debate, not a home run at all. Even if it was a home run, one interview definitely doesn't have the capacity to change the perception out there of 72% of voters, according to a CBS poll, who do not believe that Biden has the mental or cognitive health to serve."

Psaki also pointed to Biden's apparent denial about the state of the race against Trump, which she believes did little to assure his supporters about his ability to win.
"He seemed in denial about the state of the race and did little to assure his supporters about his stamina," Psaki said. "That's not going to help him win over voters who are already skeptical about his age and fitness for office."

According to Psaki, the panic within the Democratic Party has not subsided, and most people are still unsure about the next step. She warned that any alternative path to Biden would need to start soon, as the Democratic National Convention and the election are fast approaching.
Psaki's comments come as Biden faces mounting pressure from within his own party. Some Democrats have expressed doubts about his ability to beat Trump, and there are growing concerns about his age and stamina.

It remains to be seen whether Biden will be able to turn his campaign around and convince voters that he is still the best candidate to lead the country. The upcoming months will be crucial for Biden, as he attempts to rally his base and win over undecided voters.
