The House GOP's plan to avert a government shutdown faces opposition, while viewers believe Kamala Harris bested Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential debate.

The House GOP's plan to pass a continuing resolution (CR) to prevent a government shutdown is facing significant headwinds, putting President Biden's agenda in jeopardy. The proposed CR would fund the government through December 9, providing time for lawmakers to negotiate a more comprehensive spending agreement. However, a group of conservative Republicans, led by Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, R-Pa., are threatening to vote against the CR, arguing that it does not sufficiently cut spending.

The White House has warned that a government shutdown would have "severe consequences" for the economy and public services. Biden has urged Congress to pass the CR, stressing the need to avoid "unnecessary disruption." However, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has acknowledged the challenges facing the plan, stating that "we're going to have to work with our members to make sure that we get to a yes."

The impasse over the CR comes as Republicans and Democrats are still at odds over a long-term budget deal. Republicans have proposed a budget that would cut spending by $130 billion, while Democrats have proposed a smaller $75 billion cut. The two sides remain far apart on key issues such as defense spending, Medicare, and Social Security.

A Fox News poll conducted after the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump shows that viewers believe Harris performed better than her opponent. In the poll, 53% of respondents said Harris won the debate, while only 38% said Trump won. The remaining 9% were undecided.

The debate, which was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, featured heated exchanges between the two candidates on issues such as the economy, immigration, and foreign policy. Harris was widely praised for her strong performance, while Trump was criticized for his interruptions and personal attacks.

The poll also found that viewers believe Harris was better prepared for the debate than Trump. 57% of respondents said Harris was better prepared, while only 32% said Trump was better prepared.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken to Twitter to needle singer-songwriter Taylor Swift after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. Musk, a vocal critic of Harris, tweeted "I'm voting for Kamala Harris's opponent in the next election. I don't care who it is."

Swift, who has been openly critical of Trump in the past, endorsed Harris in a tweet on Tuesday, stating "I believe she has the qualities to be an exceptional leader."

Musk's tweet has been met with mixed reactions. Some users have praised Musk for speaking out against Harris, while others have criticized him for attacking Swift.

Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton, has come to the defense of Vice President Kamala Harris following the first presidential debate. In a tweet, Clinton praised Harris for her "thoughtfulness, strength, and preparedness."

Clinton also criticized Trump's debate performance, calling it "a disgrace." She wrote that Trump "interrupted, lied, and demeaned our country."
