Biden's Border Crisis: Illegal Immigration Skyrockets under Biden's Watch

Despite claims of success, Customs and Border Protection data reveals a massive surge in illegal crossings after Biden's inauguration, far exceeding levels seen under Trump.
Within weeks of being selected as Trump's running mate, JD Vance has already made a visit to the Cochise County border, highlighting the dire situation and criticizing Biden's immigration policies.
Customs and Border Protection data paints a stark picture of the Biden administration's handling of illegal immigration, showing a crisis that dwarfs anything seen under former President Trump. Despite fanfare about recent border policy successes, the data tells a different story.
Biden's Border Crisis: Illegal Immigration Skyrockets under Biden's Watch
When Trump took office in 2016, border apprehensions stood at 408,870 for the fiscal year. While this number fluctuated during his presidency, it remained relatively stable. However, under Biden, illegal immigration has soared.
In Biden's first year in office, border crossings spiked to 1,734,686, more than quadrupling the previous year and doubling Trump's worst year. This trend continued in 2022 and 2023, with apprehensions exceeding 2 million each year.
Biden's Border Crisis: Illegal Immigration Skyrockets under Biden's Watch
The Biden administration has touted a recent dip in apprehensions as evidence of progress, but the data shows that June's relatively low numbers are misleading. Biden halted asylum processing in June, a move that critics argue artificially suppressed apprehensions.
Moreover, the total number of apprehensions for 2024 is on track to surpass both 2019 and Trump's exit year of 2020. Comparing June 2024 to June 2019 or 2020 is disingenuous, given the massive spike in crossings since Biden took office.
Biden's Border Crisis: Illegal Immigration Skyrockets under Biden's Watch
During his visit to Arizona, Vance lambasted the Biden-Harris administration's border policies and specifically criticized Vice President Kamala Harris's role as "border czar." He vowed to implement stricter policies, including ending catch-and-release, forcing asylum seekers to remain in Mexico, and completing the border wall.
The Biden administration's embrace of catch-and-release, which allows illegal immigrants to be released into the US while their cases are pending, has been widely criticized as a magnet for illegal immigration. Vance has echoed this criticism, arguing that it effectively creates an open border.
Biden's Border Crisis: Illegal Immigration Skyrockets under Biden's Watch
The soaring number of illegal crossings under Biden has strained border resources and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis at the border. Despite claims of success, the data clearly shows that Biden's immigration policies have failed to stem the flow of illegal immigration and have, in fact, made the situation worse.
