Amidst declining support, dwindling funds, and growing pressure from within the Democratic Party, President Biden's re-election campaign is facing a critical juncture, according to former Clinton strategist Paul Begala.

President Biden's re-election prospects are in grave jeopardy, as evidenced by a dwindling donor base, unfavorable polling numbers, and waning support within his own party. Former Clinton strategist Paul Begala painted a bleak picture of Biden's campaign on CNN Thursday, declaring, "The walls are closing in."

According to Begala, his conversations with Senate and House members, major donors, activists, and party chairs have revealed a widespread lack of confidence in Biden's ability to succeed. The growing chorus of voices within the Democratic Party urging the president to step down further underscores the critical state of his campaign.

Reports emerged this week that top Democratic leaders, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have privately implored Biden to withdraw from the race. Pelosi has allegedly argued that polls indicate Biden's defeat and the potential loss of House seats based on his candidacy. Schumer has also expressed strong views that it would be prudent for Biden to "bow out."

Begala emphasized the urgent need for Biden to heed this advice, citing a combination of factors that paint a grim outlook for his presidential bid. "It's like that Carrie Underwood song, ‘Jesus, take the wheel,’” Begala said. “I’ve been saying, ‘Nancy, take the wheel.’”

Begala highlighted the severe financial strain facing Biden's campaign. "The money has dried up," he asserted. "I can tell you that I raised money for a lot of super PACs. It has dried up. Donors are on strike, to the tune of somebody reported $90 million? It's more like $300 million that people are sitting on saying they're not going to give."

Celebrity backers have also threatened to withhold financial support while Biden remains on the ticket. The president's fundraising struggles are exacerbated by a loss of support in Democratic strongholds and swing states. "The maps are deteriorating so fast that the lieutenant governor of New York says it's now a swing state," Begala warned. "People talk about losing New Jersey. Minnesota and the polling is terrible, especially in the swing states. So you can‘t fight money maps and polls in this business."

Despite mounting pressure, the Biden campaign maintains that he has no plans to abandon the race. "Our campaign is not working through any scenarios where President Biden is not at the top of the ticket. He is and will be the Democratic nominee," Biden principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks said.

However, the dire state of the campaign, coupled with the internal discontent within the Democratic Party, casts serious doubt on Biden's ability to secure a second term. As Begala concluded, "This is no way to run a campaign. It's no way to run a country."
