President Biden's cognitive performance has come under renewed scrutiny following a report in The Wall Street Journal alleging that the 81-year-old president has exhibited signs of decline during private meetings. According to the report, based on conversations with 45 lawmakers and administration officials, Biden has shown his age in those settings, raising concerns about his mental fitness for office.

The White House has dismissed many of the accounts in the Journal's report, attributing them to "cherry-picking" and "political attacks." However, a review of Biden's recent public gaffes and statements provides some evidence to support the concerns raised.

On May 20th, during a Rose Garden event, Biden mistakenly stated that American-Israeli Hersh Goldberg Polin, who is being held captive by Hamas, was present at the event. Biden quickly corrected himself, acknowledging that Polin was still being held by the terrorist group.

On May 19th, at a campaign event in Michigan, Biden appeared to claim that he was vice president during the coronavirus pandemic and that former President Obama dispatched him to Detroit to help battle the disease. Biden was last vice president in January 2017, and the coronavirus pandemic began in late 2019, during the Trump administration.

On April 24th, during a speech at a trade union conference, Biden appeared to read teleprompter instructions out loud, saying "four more years, pause" before the crowd repeated the phrase back to him.

On April 23rd, at a campaign rally in Florida, Biden asked the crowd how many times former President Donald Trump had to prove "we can't be trusted." This remark appeared to be a nonsensical question, as it is unclear what Biden meant by "we" and "can't be trusted."

On February 7th, 2021, Biden claimed he spoke with the late German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who died in 2017, while recalling past conversations during fundraising events. Biden attended three campaign reception events in New York that day and told donors about conversations surrounding the January 6th Capitol attack at his first G7 meeting as president, which took place in England in June 2021. The annual meeting was attended by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, not Kohl.

These gaffes and statements have raised questions about Biden's mental acuity and whether he is still fit enough to serve as president. While the White House has dismissed the reports of cognitive decline as politically motivated, the evidence suggests that Biden may be experiencing some form of decline in his cognitive abilities.

It is important to note that these are just a few examples of Biden's recent gaffes and statements and that they do not necessarily indicate a larger pattern of cognitive decline. However, they do raise concerns that should be taken seriously by the White House and the American public.
