A recent poll has revealed that four in ten Democrats believe the party should intervene and replace Biden as the nominee. The poll also found that Trump's base remains more solid behind him despite his recent conviction.

A recent poll conducted by USA TODAY/Suffolk University has cast doubt on President Biden's core supporters' beliefs that he should stay in the 2024 presidential race. The poll found that more than four in ten Democrats said that the Democratic Party should replace Biden as the nominee. The survey, which polled 1,000 respondents living in all U.S. states, also revealed that 54% of all voters believe Biden should drop out.

The poll further highlighted the contrast between Biden's and Trump's performances in the recent presidential debate. Trump was declared the winner by a margin of nearly five to one, with 50% of respondents favoring him compared to Biden's 11%. Among Biden supporters, only 28% said that the sitting president won the debate.

Pollsters noted that mental sharpness was a significant factor in voter opinions. Many criticized Biden's performance, using words like "confused" and "incoherent." Conversely, supporters of Trump praised his "coherence" and "presence."

Biden's weak debate performance has rattled the Democratic Party, leading to calls for a new nominee. Former Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin called Thursday's debate "a disaster" from which Biden could not recover. He urged Democratic senators and governors to write to Biden and ask him to release his delegates and step aside.

Despite the poll's findings, Biden's family continues to back him. First Lady Jill Biden stated in an interview with Vogue, "We will continue to fight."

The poll also examined Trump's base, which appears more solid behind him despite his recent conviction. Only 14% of Republicans believe that the Republican Party should replace Trump as the nominee.
