A recent survey highlights widespread opposition to President Biden's proposed changes to the Supreme Court, underscoring the concerns raised by Republican Senator Tim Scott.
The political storm surrounding the Supreme Court has intensified with the release of a nationwide survey that reveals most Americans reject sweeping changes to the nation's highest court, despite President Biden's recent push for such measures.
The Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy survey, cited in a Wall Street Journal opinion editorial, asked likely voters their stance on amending the Constitution to alter the Supreme Court's structure. A resounding 52% of respondents opposed the idea, while only 41% supported it.

The survey also delved into the controversial concept of court-packing, which involves increasing the number of Supreme Court seats to alter the court's ideological balance. Only 34% of likely voters expressed support for court-packing, while 59% firmly opposed it.
"Over 150 years, the United States Supreme Court has had nine justices," the Journal noted. "Court-packing is generally defined as increasing the number of Supreme Court seats, primarily to alter the ideological balance of the court."

The poll's findings align with the concerns expressed by Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. In an interview with "The Ingraham Angle," Scott lamented the targeting of the Supreme Court by Democrats, warning that it puts a "political target on the back" of the judiciary.
The Mason-Dixon poll further indicated that an overwhelming majority of voters (87%), including 84% of Democrats, acknowledge the importance of an independent judiciary as a safeguard for civil liberties.

Despite these findings, Democrats in Congress and the White House continue to push for radical changes to the Supreme Court. Senator Mallory McMorrow of Michigan falsely claimed that the Supreme Court's presidential immunity decision made former President Trump "completely immune from prosecution."
The Journal decried such "poisonous attacks" on the highest court, emphasizing that they are likely to intensify during the Democratic National Convention. However, the recent survey suggests that most Americans do not endorse these attacks and prefer a more balanced approach to the Supreme Court.

President Biden's last-minute push for sweeping changes to the Supreme Court is therefore facing a significant hurdle in public opinion. The survey findings reinforce the concerns raised by Republicans like Senator Scott and highlight the need for a measured and constitutional approach to the nation's judiciary.
