In the upcoming debates between President Biden and former President Trump, Biden has set forth a stringent list of demands, raising questions about his willingness to engage in fair and open discussions.
Jesse Watters, host of "Jesse Watters Primetime," delved into the proposed rules for the upcoming debates between President Biden and former President Trump, highlighting the extensive list of demands put forward by the incumbent president.
Biden has stipulated that he will only participate in debates moderated by CNN, CBS, ABC, or Telemundo, excluding conservative voices like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from the proceedings. Additionally, Biden has requested that there be no live audience present and that Trump be barred from interrupting him during the exchanges.
The microphone of the non-speaking candidate will be muted during the debates, and Biden has limited the number of debates to two: one in the summer and one in September. Interestingly, the debates have been scheduled for the only day of the week when Biden is not facing legal challenges.
Trump has swiftly accepted Biden's offer, agreeing to debate on CNN on June 27th and ABC News on September 10th. However, the Republican incumbent has wryly characterized his opponent as "Crooked" Joe Biden and branded him a threat to democracy.
Political analysts have suggested that Biden's decision to embrace the debates is a tactical move to alter the trajectory of the race, as he has been facing significant criticism and poor approval ratings. However, the extensive list of demands has raised concerns about Biden's willingness to participate in open and fair discussions.
Critics have argued that by dictating the terms of the debates, Biden is attempting to control the narrative and avoid tough questions. The exclusion of certain moderators and the prohibition of interruptions could stifle the exchange of ideas and prevent voters from witnessing a genuine debate.
Furthermore, the lack of an audience undermines the democratic process by depriving citizens of the opportunity to witness the candidates engage in direct debate. The muted microphones and limited number of debates further restrict the scope of the discussions and raise questions about the commitment to transparency and accountability.
Ultimately, the effectiveness of the debates will depend on the willingness of both candidates to engage in substantive discussions, adhere to the agreed-upon rules, and respect the democratic principles of openness and fair play.
