CNN anchor John King has issued a cautionary message to President Biden, warning that his defense of his economic policies could backfire in the upcoming midterm elections.

Despite polls consistently showing Americans' dissatisfaction with the economy, Biden has staunchly defended his administration's record. However, King believes Biden's approach could come across as dismissive and out of touch with voters' experiences.

"Be careful not to come across as a Washington elitist scolding voters," King advised. "They don't like that. They don't like being told they're wrong."

King's concerns are supported by his interactions with voters on the campaign trail, who continue to express worries about inflation and the rising cost of living. This sentiment is reflected in recent polls, which show Biden trailing former President Trump on economic issues among swing state voters.

A Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll found Biden in the lead in only one of seven swing states, with pessimism about the economy on the rise. An NBC News poll showed voters preferring Trump over Biden on economic issues, while a Fox News poll indicated that only 38% of Americans approve of Biden's handling of the economy.

Former Obama adviser and CNN political analyst David Axelrod echoed King's concerns, criticizing Biden's boastful messaging about his economic record. "If he doesn't win this race, it may not be Donald Trump that beats him," Axelrod warned. "It may be his own pride."

King's caution poses a significant challenge for Biden, who must balance acknowledging economic challenges while maintaining a positive message. As the midterm elections draw near, Biden's ability to effectively address voter concerns without appearing dismissive will be crucial to his chances of retaining control of Congress.

In addition to concerns about inflation and the cost of living, voters are also facing rising gas prices and a precarious stock market. These economic pressures have eroded consumer confidence and heightened anxiety among Americans.

To address these challenges, Biden has implemented various measures, including releasing strategic oil reserves to lower gas prices and providing financial assistance to low- and middle-income Americans. However, the effectiveness of these measures remains uncertain, and their impact may not be felt quickly enough to sway voters in the midterm elections.

Biden's economic defense will face further scrutiny as the midterm campaign season intensifies. If he fails to adequately convey empathy and understanding for voter concerns, his defense could indeed come back to haunt him and cost him the support of key voting blocs.
