President Biden's decision to temporarily halt weapons shipments to Israel has sparked outrage and concern, with experts warning that the move emboldens Hamas and Hezbollah and threatens the Jewish state's security. Senior strategic analyst Gen. Jack Keane (Ret.) joins 'Fox & Friends' to discuss the impact of Biden's decision and why it may push Israel away from the U.S. sphere of influence.
Amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, President Biden's administration has stirred controversy by withholding a weapons shipment to the Jewish state. This decision has sparked concerns that it emboldens Israel's enemies and endangers its security.
According to Gen. Jack Keane (Ret.), a senior strategic analyst for Fox News, Biden is "walking away from Israel" by withholding the weapons. He added that the decision is "stunning" and sends a dangerous message to Israel's enemies.
The halt on weapons deliveries comes after President Biden issued an ultimatum to Israel, threatening to withhold offensive weapons if the country launched an invasion of Rafah. However, despite Biden's warning, rocket attacks have continued to rain down on Israel from Rafah.
Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States during the Trump administration, David Friedman, criticized Biden's policy, stating that it emboldens Hamas and allows them to fire rockets with impunity.
Experts warn that by suspending arms deliveries, Biden is creating daylight between the U.S. and Israel, its only democracy in the Middle East. This move, they argue, could lead Israel to seek support from other nations and weaken the U.S.'s influence in the region.
John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Adviser, has defended the administration's decision, stating that the U.S. fully supports Israel. However, critics argue that the arms blockade contradicts this claim.
Matthew Levitt, director of the Reinhard Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence at The Washington Institute, believes that the suspension of arms could embolden Hamas and Hezbollah, as it demonstrates that the U.S. is not fully committed to Israel's defense.
Hamas, which is responsible for over 100 hostages, including Americans, has reportedly been using human shields to deter Israeli soldiers from capturing its mastermind, Yahya Sinwar.
A letter signed by retired U.S. military leaders criticized Biden's arms directive, arguing that it undermines the partnership between the U.S. and Israel, especially in the face of rising antisemitism and threats from Iran and its terrorist proxies.
Richard Goldberg, a senior adviser at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and former National Security Council official, warned that Iran and Hezbollah would escalate their attacks as a result of the arms embargo, as they perceive it as a sign of weakness and division between the U.S. and Israel.
The White House has not responded to requests for comment on whether the suspension of arms emboldens Hamas and Hezbollah.
