Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe has accused President Biden of conducting "lawfare" against the American people by using legal proxies to convict former President Donald Trump. Ratcliffe's remarks came in the wake of Trump's conviction in a civil case on charges of inciting the January 6th Capitol riot.
Ratcliffe alleges that Biden's Justice Department has been targeting Trump and his allies through politically motivated prosecutions and investigations. He cited the conviction of Trump's former advisor Steve Bannon as an example of the administration's "lawfare" campaign.

The Justice Department has pushed back against Ratcliffe's allegations, arguing that its actions are based on evidence and the rule of law. However, critics have raised concerns about the department's handling of the Trump investigation, particularly the decision to charge him with inciting an insurrection based on his January 6th speech.
In a separate development, the Justice Department has filed a court filing arguing that it cannot release audio from President Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur due to the threat of potential deepfakes. The filing came in response to a legal challenge against Biden's efforts to exercise executive privilege over the recording.

The DOJ acknowledged that there is already enough public audio available to create AI deepfakes of both Biden and Hur, but it said releasing the true recording would make it more difficult to disprove any false versions.
The Justice Department's assertion that the release of the audio could facilitate malicious manipulation has prompted accusations from conservative legal groups and House Republicans that the Biden administration is attempting to suppress evidence that could be politically damaging.

The transcript of the interview, which has been released publicly, revealed multiple embarrassing moments for Biden, including his inability to recall key details about his handling of classified documents. Biden was outraged at the report and subsequently got caught in a number of false statements regarding his interview.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., expressed concerns that the audio recordings would confirm the findings of the Special Counsel's report, which depicted Biden as mentally incompetent and elderly. "President Biden is apparently afraid for the citizens of this country and everyone to hear those tapes," Johnson said.
Some Republicans have speculated that the transcript of the interview may not line up with the audio, saying it may have been edited to prevent embarrassing Biden. The Justice Department has rejected these claims, saying only minor adjustments were made to the transcript to remove repeated words and filler words.
The ongoing legal battles and accusations of "lawfare" have heightened tensions between the Biden administration and its political opponents. The outcome of these cases could have significant implications for the future of American politics and the integrity of the justice system.
