Missouri Senator Josh Hawley slams President Biden's executive order, calling it "completely lawless."
Missouri Senator Josh Hawley has strongly condemned President Biden's latest executive order aimed at shielding undocumented immigrants from deportation, labeling it "completely lawless." Hawley asserts that Biden lacks the authority to implement such protections.
Biden's executive order is expected to provide deportation protection for approximately 500,000 illegal immigrants, primarily targeting spouses of U.S. citizens who have resided in the country for at least a decade. The order also extends protection to 50,000 non-citizen children under the age of 21 who have a parent married to a U.S. citizen.

Republican lawmakers have expressed vehement opposition to the executive order, dismissing it as a cynical attempt to win over Hispanic and Latino voters before the upcoming midterm elections. Congressman Mark Green, Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, accused the Biden administration of being disingenuous about border security.
Congressman Richard Hudson, Chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, believes the amnesty plan will worsen the illegal immigration crisis. He argues that it sends a message that the borders are open and encourages more people to cross illegally.

GOP lawmakers have urged the Biden administration to prioritize border security rather than implementing policies that they contend will attract more illegal immigration. Congressman August Pfluger of Texas characterized the order as "mass amnesty" and "political pandering."
While Republicans have criticized the executive order, Democrats have welcomed it as a positive step towards protecting undocumented immigrants. Nanette Barragan, Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, believes the order will reunite American families and provide relief to undocumented spouses and Dreamers.

The executive order on undocumented immigrants follows a previous directive from Biden restricting asylum claims at the southern border. Republicans have criticized this as too little too late, arguing that major cities across the country are already grappling with the consequences of the migrant crisis.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has condemned the amnesty plan as a political ploy by Biden, who he believes is attempting to use the issue for his own advantage. Johnson argues that the plan will only incentivize more illegal immigration and endanger Americans.

The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment on the criticisms of the executive order. However, the administration has defended its immigration policies as necessary steps to address the humanitarian crisis at the border and provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have long been part of American society.
