Former economic adviser to Obama, Robert Wolf, and former Trump campaign economic adviser, Steve Moore, discuss rising energy costs and President Biden's green energy push on 'America Reports.'
President Biden's ambitious green energy agenda, which includes significant spending increases, has come under fire from Republicans, who argue that it will harm resource development and economic growth in Alaska.
Former Obama economic adviser Robert Wolf and former Trump campaign economic adviser Steve Moore recently joined 'America Reports' to discuss rising energy costs and Biden's green energy push. Moore expressed concerns about the economic impact of Biden's policies, particularly in states like Alaska, which rely heavily on oil and gas production.
Democratic Representative Mary Peltola of Alaska has faced criticism from her GOP challengers for refusing to take a firm stance against Biden's agenda, which they claim will damage Alaska's economy. Peltola has voted "present" on bills aimed at rolling back some of Biden's executive orders against the state's oil and gas industry.
GOP Lt. Governor Nancy Dahlstrom and Republican candidate Nick Begich have both criticized Peltola's decision, arguing that it fails to represent the interests of Alaskans.
One of the contentious bills is the Alaska's Right to Produce Act, which seeks to nullify presidential orders and federal actions that restrict oil and gas leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). The bill passed in the House with a 214-199 vote, with Peltola voting "present."
Proponents of the bill, such as Minnesota Republican Representative Pete Stauber, argue that it is necessary to promote economic growth and energy security. Peltola supports the bill's intent but opposed the nullification of the Northern Bering Sea Climate Resilience Area.
Peltola has defended her decision, stating that she proposed an amendment to exempt the resilience area and introduced a separate clean version of the bill. However, her stance has drawn criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.
GOP Alaska Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan have also condemned the Biden administration's energy policies, accusing them of targeting Alaskans while benefiting hostile regimes. They have highlighted the administration's decision to block oil and gas drilling in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska and the Ambler Road project.
Peltola faces a primary election on August 24 and will face Dahlstrom and Begich in the general election on November 5. The candidates' positions on energy issues will likely play a significant role in the outcome of the race.
The future of Alaska's economy and resource development hangs in the balance as the debate over Biden's green energy agenda continues.
