The highly anticipated news conference by President Biden has served as a political advantage for former President Donald Trump's campaign, with allies viewing it as a confirmation of Biden's weakness and a reinforcement of their belief that he is the weakest candidate Trump could face in the 2024 election.
President Biden's much-scrutinized news conference on Thursday night has become a subject of political analysis, with Donald Trump's presidential campaign and allies perceiving it as a victory for the former president.
Despite concerns about Biden's health and competency, the news conference did not appear to cause further damage to his presidency. However, it also failed to quell the growing movement within the Democratic Party for Biden to step aside and end his re-election campaign.
Biden's News Conference: A Win-Win for Trump's Campaign
Trump's campaign believes that Biden's performance at the news conference reinforced their argument that the 81-year-old is not physically or mentally fit to serve as president. They contend that Biden's stumbles and gaffes, including mistakenly referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump," exposed his declining cognitive abilities.
Trump's social media account quickly shared clips of Biden's errors, adding to the former president's narrative that Biden is not up to the demands of the presidency.

Top Trump surrogate Donald Trump Jr. stated that Biden did "fine enough to be able to stay in it" but later shared a social media post mocking the president's flub.
Republican consultant Dave Carney, who steers a leading pro-Trump super PAC, praised Biden's ability to avoid major gaffes but argued that his performance did not provide reassurance to voters or allies.
Biden's News Conference: A Win-Win for Trump's Campaign
Longtime Republican strategist Mike Biundo concurred, noting that Biden did enough to remain in the race but not enough to appear like a competent candidate. Biundo emphasized that the uncertainty surrounding Biden's candidacy benefits the Republican party.
Since the June 27 debate, the Trump campaign and its allied super PACs have largely refrained from using clips of Biden's stumbles in their advertisements. However, Biundo believes that some of the gaffes from the news conference are too valuable to ignore.
The Republican strategist suggests that Trump's campaign should allow Biden to self-destruct but also utilize some of the more glaring errors to highlight his weaknesses.
The news conference has provided ammunition for Trump's campaign, reinforcing their belief that Biden is vulnerable and that their candidate has the best chance of winning the presidency in 2024.
