President Biden's support among Black Americans has been steadily waning, according to recent polls, raising concerns about his path to electoral success in key battleground states.

Polls conducted by the New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer indicate that Biden's approval ratings have declined among younger, Black, and Hispanic voters, threatening to unravel his Democratic coalition.

In the 2020 election, Biden secured razor-thin margins in six key battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. However, the new polls suggest that Trump has gained a significant advantage in five of these states: Arizona (49%-42%), Georgia (49%-39%), Michigan (49%-42%), Nevada (50%-38%), and Pennsylvania (47%-44%). Biden retains a narrow lead in Wisconsin (47%-45%).

The polls indicate that Trump is making inroads with Black voters, who overwhelmingly supported Biden in 2020. If the polls hold true on Election Day, Trump could garner over 20% of Black voters' support, the highest level for a GOP presidential nominee in generations.

Economic concerns are a major factor eroding Biden's support. Despite job growth and a booming stock market, inflation remains a significant issue for voters. Over half of those surveyed said they believed the economy was still "poor."

Discontent with the political system is also prevalent. Nearly seven in 10 voters said they believed the nation's political and economic systems needed major changes or should be entirely torn down.

Trump has effectively tapped into this sentiment, with nearly three-quarters of voters believing he would bring about major changes if elected.

However, Biden remains in contention, holding ground with older voters and White voters, who are less likely to demand fundamental changes and prioritize democracy as a key issue in their votes.

Abortion could also present a challenge for Trump. Nearly two-thirds of voters surveyed believe that abortion should be always or mostly legal, including 44% of those supporting the former president.

The polls surveyed over 4,000 voters in the six key battleground states, with an overall sampling error of plus or minus 1.8 percentage points. The margin of error in the individual states ranged from plus or minus 3.6 to 4.6 percentage points.

As the 2024 election nears, Biden faces the challenge of addressing economic concerns, generational shifts, and discontent among key demographics. The outcome of the polls will provide crucial insights into the current political landscape and the direction of the upcoming presidential race.
