"The truth isn't one-sided like that," Maher explained. "The Democrats constantly are running against Trump with the idea 'You people out there couldn't possibly vote for this guy.' And people are saying, 'Watch me. Hold my beer. Watch me vote for him again.'"

Maher's willingness to host Republican figures on his show, such as former Attorney General Bill Barr, has also been a source of controversy. However, he defends his decision, arguing that it is necessary to engage with those who hold opposing views.

"You're gonna have to talk to people, and maybe you'll find out that they are not the monsters you think they are," Maher said.

While Maher has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, he has also expressed frustration with liberals for their focus on certain social issues, such as transgender ideology. He believes that this focus is alienating many Americans and contributing to the country's political divide.

"And this is why people vote for Trump," Maher told his audience in April. "They say in politics, liberals are the gas pedal and conservatives are the brakes. And I'm generally with the gas pedal, but not if we're driving off a cliff."
