Golf star Billy Horschel celebrated his wife Brittany's eight years of sobriety, highlighting the challenges of addiction and urging those struggling to reach out for support.
Billy Horschel took to social media to share a heartfelt message in honor of his wife Brittany's eight-year sobriety journey. The PGA Tour winner used this platform to raise awareness about the struggles of addiction, encouraging individuals to seek help if they are in a similar situation.
"Today is a special day in the Horschel household. It’s May 21, and it’s Brittany’s eight-year sobriety date," Horschel began his message on Twitter. "It’s truly amazing to see what her life has become, how she has changed as a person – become an unbelievable mother, become an unbelievable support system to me."
Horschel emphasized the misconception that people struggling with addiction feel alone and without support. "I know there’s a lot of people out there struggling with addiction, and you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, you don’t think you can get sober, you don’t think there’s anyone out there that may care for you or love you enough to help you through the journey – but there is. There are people out there."
The Horschel Family Foundation, founded by Billy and Brittany, aims to invest in communities and partner with organizations that inspire hope, provide healing, promote health, and honor soldiers. Their mission aligns with their personal experiences and desire to support others.
"If you are struggling with some form of addiction, please reach out to people because people want to help," Horschel added. "People want to help you, people want to see you achieve a better life, a more happy, healthy life, a more successful life."
Brittany Horschel first publicly acknowledged her battle with alcoholism in 2017, describing it as a year-long journey to a healthier physical and mental state. She emphasized the importance of self-recognition and seeking support from loved ones, as it ultimately saved her life and marriage.
"One year ago, I began a journey to a healthy me; mentally and physically," she wrote in a social media post at the time. "I will keep this simple, ‘I am an alcoholic.’ I say that now without shame. Admitting that to myself, family and friends has saved my life and my marriage."
The Horschel Family Foundation announced plans for a new wellness space, raising funds in Brittany's honor and her inspiring journey. The foundation actively supports organizations that address mental health and addiction issues, providing support and resources to those in need.
Horschel's message resonated with many, highlighting the importance of breaking down the stigma associated with addiction and encouraging individuals to seek help. His platform provided a voice for those struggling in silence, reminding them that they are not alone and that there is hope.
