Bloomberg News has reportedly shelved its plans for a major promotional campaign for a new show hosted by journalist Olivia Nuzzi following backlash from left-wing critics over her previous reporting on President Joe Biden's mental health.
Bloomberg News has reportedly canceled its plans for a "splashy PR rollout" of a new show hosted by journalist Olivia Nuzzi after she faced backlash from left-wing critics over her reporting on President Joe Biden's mental health.
According to the news website Semafor, the backlash stemmed from a bombshell story Nuzzi wrote in July for New York Magazine that highlighted a "conspiracy of silence" surrounding Biden's alleged mental decline.

After the story was published, liberal critics on Twitter circulated old tweets from the early 2010s in which Nuzzi joked about conspiracy theories targeting then-President Barack Obama, claiming that they were evidence of racism and demanded that Bloomberg fire her.
In response to the backlash, Bloomberg reportedly decided to scrap its plans for a major promotional campaign for Nuzzi's show, "Working Capital," which featured interviews with prominent political and business figures.

Nuzzi expressed disappointment in Bloomberg's decision, telling Fox News Digital in a statement that she had been "accused of being a liberal activist" when she wrote something that agitated the right and "a conservative activist" when she wrote something that agitated the left.
She added that she was not surprised by Bloomberg's decision, but that she was disappointed.

"The difference is that mainstream media organizations tend to ignore bad-faith campaigns against reporters led by the right," Nuzzi said. "I have no illusions about massive corporate media entities and their tolerance for even the faintest murmurs of a PR crisis, so I can’t say I was surprised, but I was disappointed."
Nuzzi also defended her old tweets, saying that she "would never judge anyone for deleting old posts" but that she believed in "running toward complication and nuance" as a journalist.

"I really believe that if you want to live in a world that is forgiving and where people hold even those they disagree with to the same standards they wish to be held, you can’t cave to mob pressure as a means to protect yourself even when it would be a lot easier to do so," Nuzzi said.
"That’s how this type of culture is formed and maintained and as individuals we get to decide if we think it’s worth enduring a little pain to fight against it."
Bloomberg did not respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
Nuzzi's report on Biden's mental health raised concerns among some Democratic officials, activists, and donors about his age and cognitive ability.
"Following encounters with the president, they had arrived at the same concern: Could he really do this for another four years? Could he even make it to Election Day?" Nuzzi wrote in her New York Magazine article.
"Uniformly, these people were of a similar social strata. They lived and socialized in Washington, New York, and Los Angeles. They did not wish to come forward with their stories. They did not want to blow a whistle."
Nuzzi also noted that some people who had interacted with Biden in social settings were concerned about his memory and ability to follow conversations.
"Longtime friends of the Biden family, who spoke to me on the condition of anonymity, were shocked to find that the president did not remember their names," Nuzzi wrote.
"At a White House event last year, a guest recalled, with horror, realizing that the president would not be able to stay for the reception because, it was clear, he would not be able to make it through the reception."
The controversy over Biden's mental health erupted following his disastrous debate performance in June and ultimately resulted in his exit from the presidential race, prompting Vice President Kamala Harris to quickly emerge as the Democratic nominee.
