Cryer, known for his role as Duckie in the film, had openly criticized McCarthy's behavior during a Q&A session at the Tribeca Film Festival. "When we had done ‘Pretty in Pink’ together, we did not get along because he was a d---," Cryer asserted, as reported by People magazine.

McCarthy, without hesitation, acknowledged the veracity of Cryer's claim. "That’s very true," he admitted. The tension between the two actors stemmed from their shared admiration for Molly Ringwald's character, Andie, who both Cryer and McCarthy's characters pursued in the film.

While Cryer labeled McCarthy a "d---," Demi Moore, who also starred in Brat Pack films like "No Small Affair" and "St. Elmo's Fire," had a different perspective. "Well I didn’t think he was a d---," Moore remarked. Cryer swiftly retorted, "Well he wasn’t a d--- to you."

McCarthy and Cryer's estrangement persisted until 2012, when they had a chance to clear the air in the greenroom of "The View." McCarthy extended an apology to Cryer, a gesture that Cryer warmly welcomed. "It was a lovely moment," Cryer said. "But it was lovely because it was like within a moment, it was just so clear that we were teenagers and that does not, that in no way defines who we are now, and it was just so lovely. It was immediately warm."
