Despite a strong performance at the NBA Scouting Combine, scouts remain unconvinced about Bronny James' NBA potential, citing concerns over his athleticism and skillset.

Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, has faced a challenging freshman season at USC, which has raised questions about his NBA Draft prospects. Despite averaging fewer than five points per game, James declared for the draft last month, but he can still reverse his decision and return to college.

James' decision may have been influenced by a cardiac arrest he suffered last summer, as he was considered a top recruit upon graduating high school. However, his performance at USC has not lived up to expectations, prompting concerns among NBA scouts.

At the recent NBA Scouting Combine, James scored 13 points in a scrimmage. However, ESPN's Marc Spears reported on a series of unfavorable evaluations from anonymous scouts. One scout stated that unless the Lakers draft James, "I don't see anyone drafting him."

Another scout was even more critical, describing James as a "tweener stuck between two positions" who lacks the athleticism to play as an elite athlete. The scout went on to compare James to Davion Mitchell, a backup point guard who averaged 5.3 points per game this season, and expressed skepticism about his NBA prospects.

James' freshman statistics, which included 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, further support these concerns. At the NBA Scouting Combine, he was measured at 6 feet, 1.5 inches, which is shorter than his listed height at USC.

Despite the negative evaluations, reports have emerged that the Lakers could draft James if it would entice his father to remain with the team. The draft is scheduled to take place two days before LeBron James' contract opt-out deadline.

James' potential NBA future remains uncertain. While his performance at the Scouting Combine has raised some eyebrows, the negative assessments from scouts suggest that his path to the league may not be as smooth as initially anticipated. The Lakers' interest in drafting him could be a lifeline, but it remains to be seen if other teams are willing to take a chance on the struggling freshman.
