After a lackluster debut in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark is counting on the home crowd to help her rebound in the Indiana Fever's home opener against the New York Liberty.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, fresh off a disappointing debut, is eager to bounce back in the team's home opener against the New York Liberty.
Following a double-digit loss to the Connecticut Sun, Clark expressed her determination to stay positive and learn from the experience.
"I'm really excited. I think the crowd's going to be really good. We're going to need it to use for our advantage," she said.
Clark acknowledged the Liberty's strength but emphasized the importance of showing up every night in a competitive league.
"Our schedule is not easy by any means, but when you're in this league and there's 12 teams — everybody's good all across the board — you have to show up every single night," she said.
In her first game, Clark was held scoreless in the first half against Connecticut's stifling defense. However, she adjusted and led the Fever with 20 points.
Despite her performance, Clark remains focused on improvement.
"Not everything is going to be perfect. Again, this is only our second game," she said. "We've got a young group, but as long as we're learning and continuing to get better, that's what is going to be positive for us."
The Fever's schedule is demanding, with just one day of rest between their Connecticut trip and the home opener. The Liberty, meanwhile, are coming off a win against the Washington Mystics.
Clark's debut was the most-watched WNBA game since 2001, a testament to her star power and the growing popularity of the league.
The Indiana Fever and New York Liberty will tip off at 7 p.m. ET at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The game will be streamed nationally on Amazon Prime.
Clark, who led the Iowa Hawkeyes to unprecedented success, is expected to play a pivotal role for the Fever this season. Her performance in the home opener will be closely scrutinized as she looks to establish herself as a force in the WNBA.
The Fever's home crowd is expected to provide a boost to the team, and Clark is confident that they can use the home court advantage to their benefit.
With a tough schedule ahead, the Fever will need to learn quickly and adapt to the demands of the WNBA. Clark's leadership and determination will be crucial as they navigate their early season challenges.
As the Indiana Fever embark on their home opener, all eyes will be on Caitlin Clark, a rising star with the potential to light up the WNBA.
